Experimental Assessment of the Influence of the Design on the Performance of Novel Evaporators with Latent Energy Storage Ability

This study was carried out within the HYBUILD project, as part of task aimed at developing novel evaporators for compact and direct integration phase-change materials (PCM) into air-conditioning systems efficient utilization solar energy. To achieve this, were designed to contain PCM between refrigerant heat transfer fluid (HTF) channels, allowing a three-media exchange mechanism. paper experimentally assesses influence configuration/arrangement channels on performance evaporators, using three different lab-scale prototypes. Key indicators (KPI) relevant thermal energy storage (TES) exchangers (HEX) used design designs evaporators. The results show that change in PCM, refrigerant, HTF channel configuration affects independently. coefficient (COP) refrigeration system density modules are least affected KPIs (less than 16%), whereas state charge (SOC) equilibrium is most KPI (about 44%). A discussion how these effects provide unique strength specific applications included.
